Reinstate Trade Aid in Central City sign now

Mister Mayor:

I am a member of your constituency and seek your help to reinstate Trade Aid’s much loved shop in the Christchurch central city. It is my understanding that the developers in charge of the rebuild do not wish for shops such as Trade Aid to be a part of our new city, as they are “not right” for the image they wish to create. This seems completely unacceptable to me.

At present, millions of innocent individuals are being exploited world-wide, working under cruel conditions in hazardous workplaces. We may have lost our central city and homes on February 22, but I do not believe that we lost our hearts. Why should a shop which helps those in need to sustain themselves and their families be unwanted in a city whose population knows only too well the sensation of such helplessness?

Responses to The Press’ article written about this matter have been flooding in thick and fast, and the message is clear – all of us, the humble citizens of Christchurch want this ‘little’ gem of a shop back. If there is no place for it, then there is no place for us, as we do not wish to be part of an operation which allows only the rich to get richer, and the poor, poorer.

This is an important issue for me and I would like to know what action you intend to take on the matter. Please support the reinstatement of this iconic Kiwi shop, albeit amongst a set of exclusive overseas brands.
