BXVI - A Signature on the Agenda/Una firma en la agenda/Una firma in agenda sign now

In 1998, Pope John Paul II called for the universal acceptance of the Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations 50 years earlier.
("That document must be observed in its integrity, in both its spirit and in its wording.") Ten years later the Holy See's signature is still missing.
During the forthcoming trip to the United States (April 15-20, 2008), His Holiness Benedict XVI will be visiting the UN Headquarters in New York (April the 18th). On the occasion of this historical event, we are asking the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to urge the Sovereign Pontiff to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as a positive contribution towards the building of an ever-growing and shared human awareness.

On the day of the visit (April the 18th) we also invite anyone who is willing to back this campaign
- to post up the 1948 Declaration's text on the doors of Catholic churches (downloadable here: http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/navigate/alpha.htm),
- to send an email to the UN Secretary General at the following address: [email protected] (RE: BXVI, a Signature on the Agenda).
