Glasgow Globetrotters should be investigated by local government authorities (in Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general) for breaches of health and safety, and for unethical business practices. sign now

We believe that a serious and comprehensive investigation should be made in regards to the health, safety, security and business ethics of the business currently operating under the name of GLASGOW GLOBETROTTERS in Glasgow, Scotland. We are citizens of various countries who share a common concern for public health and safety, and for protecting consumers from people or companies who act unethically in their business. We feel that the "services" offered by this company are completely sub-standard, and probably illegal. We believe that the Glasgow city council, and other government organisations (not to mention the people of Scotland themselves) would be shocked to discover the image that this company presents of Scotland to travellers all over the world.

Our complaints include but are not limited to:
Misleading/misrepresentative advertising.
Gross disregard for public health and safety, namely through extremely unhygienic conditions, bed bugs, poorly maintained or only semi-constructed facilities, drug and alcohol use by staff during working hours, over-crowding and potentially illegal "accommodation", very poor security and a number of other issues.
Verbally abusive treatment of paying guests by staff, management and owners, including but not limited to personal threats and racist comments.

We implore the local government in Glasgow to launch an investigation into this business, primarily on the grounds mentioned, in an attempt to either have the business shut down, or cleaned up to a level similar to that of other hostels worldwide. We understand that budget accommodation will often be a "no-frills" service, but believe that this particular provider is in breach of public health and safety concerns. Furthermore we believe it is the interest of Glasgow city, if not the whole of Scotland to protect their own interests in terms of attracting tourism to the area in the knowledge that the image of the city and the country should not be compromised by unethical business people.

In addition to the above request, we strongly urge the larger organisation known as Globetrotters, which has links to hostels in many other cities, to publicly denounce the Glasgow hostel, and protect their own interests by severing connections with the hostel in question.
