Keep the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church (ME) a house of Worship! sign now

The remaining members of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church (GUMC) have recently recommended the Church's sale to the Gouldsboro Historical Society. The GUMC members are aware of the Rock Churchs (Winter Harbor) expression of a strong interest by a bid to purchase the former GUMC and continue it as a place of Worship.

A United Methodist Church committee is being formed at this time. Very soon this committee will be looking at the former GUMC to make their assessment.

We, in the Schoodic Peninsula Community express the belief that our best interests are with the use of the former GUMC Church as intended, a continuous place of Worship. The Rock Church would bring weekly Worship by dozens of families. The Rock Church has the resources for upkeep and repairs needed to reopen the former GUMC as a viable Schoodic Peninsula Community resource on a scale that the Gouldsboro Historic Society could not approach or sustain.

The idea of the former GUMC as an off-the-road, decaying, unused "building" devoid of Worship music, children's voices and God's Word saddens us. It almost does a dispirit to our memories of weddings, funerals and services past. Yes history is about the past, but there still is a Worship future for the former GUMC.

If the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church had a voice, it might quote:

Ephesians 2:19-22

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Please join us in signing this petition and maybe contacting Rev. Randy Chretien (945-9567) to demonstrate that the Schoodic Peninsula Community needs the lower lights be burning from the former Gouldsboro United Methodist Church so she may rescue, she may save.

We close with the words of Red Skelton
"...and may God bless."
