Re- open investigation into the 1978 arrest and subsequent trial and capital murder conviction of Timothy Charles Davis in Coosa County Alabama sign now

On July 20, 1978 sixty-eight year old Avis Alford was brutally murdered and sodomized in her rural Coosa County Alabama Grocery. Seventeen year old Timothy Charles Davis was arrested, tried and convicted of capital murder. Davis spent twenty-six years on Alabamas death row. Following the United States Supreme Courts ban on executing juvenile offenders, Davis was re-sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

At the time of his arrest, Timothy Davis had never been in trouble with the law and had committed no known acts of violence. Having married his sweetheart seven weeks prior to his arrest, Timothy Davis was working full time, and he and his bride were living with his mother and grandmother until they saved enough money to strike out on their own. During his thirty-two years of confinement, Timothy Davis has lived as a model prisoner.

The case against Timothy Davis was completely circumstantial and relied heavily on the testimony of two snitches. One snitchs past included convictions for sexually-based felonies, and he was described by the director of the state mental hospital as a potential sexual psychopath. Immediately following the murder, the snitch was investigated as a suspect when he provided provably false details leading to Timothy Davis arrest.

While Timothy Davis was held in juvenile detention, a fellow inmate came forward with Davis so-called jailhouse confession. This second snitch had been in trouble with juvenile authorities an incredible fifty-seven times. For performing his civic duty, the young man was given a lighter sentence and transferred to an unsecured facility.

Other evidence against Timothy Davis has been debunked as having no substantive value toward proving his guilt, and considerable exculpatory evidence points to his innocence.

A recent investigation into the thirty-two year old murder discovered a neighbor living up the highway from the victim who admitted in a recorded interview that he was probably in the victims store at the time of the murder. This man also admitted he left the store area and walked through his cow pasture located directly across the highway from the victims store. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was later recovered along the exact path the man took through his pasture. The man says since he saw nothing he was never questioned by police. However, this mans close relative led the murder investigation.

The neighbors relative and chief investigator quickly seized upon Timothy Davis as the murderer, promoted the snitch as an extremely reliable witness, and gave contradictory and untrue testimony under oath.

I believe that people who are serving JLWOP sentences which they received for crimes they were involved in as juveniles deserve a chance to be re-evaluated for parole.
