Save our Nursery sign now

On behalf of the babies and children at the Vara Barn nursery, the parents of these children, the nursery staff, Ikea employees who rely on this childcare provision and as customers of your West Thurrock branch, we are outraged at your decision to close down this nursery and urge you to reconsider.

Vara Barn nursery, part of the Busy Bees group, has been successfully open for the last 5 years and rated as one of the top childcare providers in Thurrock. It is home to 50 children aged 3 months to 5 years and is the only nursery in the area to be open on Bank Holidays, closing only for two days at Christmas. The staff are dedicated to the children and offer a high standard of care. Like many other boroughs and cities in the UK, Thurrock suffers from a shortage of nurseries, this decision goes against the governments plan to increase childcare facilities and encourage mothers to return to work. Furthermore, as consumers we are led to believe that IKEA is a family orientated business. In conclusion, the nursery closure is as a result of IKEA refusing to renew their lease. We believe that this decision is based on profit and not social responsibility.

Please find listed below the names, contact details and signatures of all individuals who oppose your decision and ask that it be reversed.

Town, County Grays, Essex I find it rather bemusing that a company of Ikea's stature, a forward thinking and modern business, would take such a 'tunnel - visioned' decision. The company has obviously put its business plan in motion before considering the
