South Philadelphia Traffic Camera Safety sign now

We, the citizens of the city of Philadelphia, petition the city to install a traffic camera at the T-Junction of Jackson Street and South Bouvier Street, with the lens pointed down South Bouvier Street. Drivers typically speed through this street as it is the last street one can turn down before a dead end and forced right turn. This increase traffic through this street much more than any other small street on Jackson Street. Because of this many cars speed down South Bouvier Street without reasonable care or caution that a reasonable driver would use down a small street where cars are parked. This poses and extreme danger to the vehicles parked legally on South Bouvier Street. Many homeowners living on South Bouvier Street have reported hit-and-run accidents on their parked vehicles by drivers who were speeding down the block or driving recklessly. These accidents are almost all hit-and-runs and occur while the vehicle owners are asleep or at work and the culprit is never caught. This causes a unfair liability on these homeowners when parking on their own street. Besides the issue of parked vehicles on South Bouvier Street, the camera will also deter these drivers from there recklessness and preserve the safety of the many young children that play on this street. A camera pointed to South Bouvier Street, would be an inexpensive solution to this problem, giving the City and the vehicle owners the ability to catch and prosecute these reckless and careless drivers, who give no respect to others property. It is a right for home owners on South Bouvier Street to feel secure with their property and their children on their own street and this camera could help provide that and deter these drivers in the future on other streets in Philadelphia. This would be a start to good public policy to make our small Philadelphia Streets safer.
